mission
"I traveled the world learning and being inspired by amazing urban leaders engaged in the work of transforming their communities. I returned with the determination to make my New York live up to it's promise and potential as a city of opportunity for all." ~ Marlon Williams
Biography
My career has focused on improving the economic, social and physical wellbeing of all urban residents with particular emphasis on increasing access and opportunity for low income families and communities of color. I specialized in the leadership of multi-agency and multi-sectoral initiatives that require the coordination and mobilization of numerous stakeholders towards achieving progress on initiatives that cannot be achieved by any one entity working in isolation.
I currently serve as the Assistant Director for Public Sector Innovation at Living Cities towards closing racial gaps in income and wealth. I work with municipal level bureaucrats in the creation and implementation of strategies that allows local government to play a central and active role in the creation of more equitable cities.
Prior to this I served as Director of Cross Agency Partnership for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene where I work with City agencies to identify opportunities to tailor various programs, policies and planning processes to maximize the potential to improve the health of residents. This work includes partnering with the housing department to integrate healthy home designs, the transportation and planning departments to build streetscapes that promote walking and cycling and the economic development agency to promote businesses that increase access to healthy and affordable foods.
I serve as an urban leader by connecting and mobilizing numerous stakeholders towards achieving progress on initiatives that cannot be achieved by any one entity working in isolation. My approach to partnership building and policy implementation begins by identifying and convening stakeholders from various sectors and perspectives. Working collaboratively, I create and manage a shared strategic plan informed by the latest research, data and needs of various stakeholders. Finally, I work to maximize the impact of my efforts through policy and advocacy efforts to insure the sustainability and scalability of our collective impact for New York City residents.
My previous work has created impact through the creation of innovative new programs and policies including the Jobs-Plus workforce development program for public housing residents and financial empowerment programs and policies for the United Way of NYC. I served as a Policy Adviser for the Mayor of New York City focused on housing, economic empowerment and aging. I am also an avid wanderer and dancer.
